In short - in the classroom, on the playing fields, and in the community, Sagemont’s achievements are more impressive with each passing year.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) February 9, 2009 -- In response to the then-dire need for a first rate private school in west Broward County, 13 years ago the Goldman family opened The Sagemont School in the heart of Weston. What began as a small lower school grew and grew until, five years later, an upper school campus was added to accommodate middle and high-school students.

This rapid physical growth, in itself a strong indicator of the quality of the education and the support of proud parents, has been surpassed only by the students’ ccomplishments. The 2008 graduating class alone received more than $2.8 million dollars in scholarships - for only 57 students! Class of 2008 standouts included gymnast Lauren Girolmetti, who received a full scholarship from the University of Miami and graduated with a weighted
4.88 GPA; Mogha Behairy, president of the National Honor Society who also received a full scholarship to the University of Miami; and Isaac Sabat, who received the Trustee Distinguished Award and $60,000 from Rice University, where he is now studying chemical engineering. This is on top of having a 90-student strong membership in the National
Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society. Among other accomplishments, the two groups raised more than $5,000 for last year’s American Cancer Society Relay For Life event.

Students in all grades have been finding ways to excel both in and out of the classroom. The elementary school Children’s Chorus was selected to perform at Disney World this spring. The school’s drama clubs staged four highly successful productions at Wannado City, including an accomplished Upper School production of Little Shop of Horrors that was nominated for Broward County’s Cappie Awards, given to the best high school drama
productions. The high school thespian club also received the highest district and state honors for the second year in a row.

The completion of the new Athletic Center at the upper school campus midway through the 2007-2008 school year was a highlight of a standout year for Sagemont athletics. Five Varsity teams advanced to either the Regional or State tournament, with boys’ basketball coming in 2nd place in the entire state (losing by only 1 point in the championship game). The team’s Marlon Rivera and tennis standout Zach Hunter were named first team All County in their respective sports, and Zach was also the overall tennis State Champion for the second year running.

Students at all grade levels are encouraged - and indeed, required - to spend time serving the needs of the community. A highlight was the school’s annual Turkey Trot, which raised over $1,500 for Kids in Distress. Additionally, the preschool through fifth grade filled two trucks with canned goods and supplies for Kids In Distress.

As part of the fundraising for Relay For Life the lower school campus held a movie night, lollipop sale and a skate-a-thon. The art students at the upper school campus sponsored an art show with the proceeds being donated to Relay for Life. Staff members and students also participated in Relay at weston Regional Park. In total, the school raised over $20,000 for the fight against cancer.

The Environmental Club saved 32.9 acres of rain forest through donations for preservation. Key Club members continued to make monthly trips to Temple Dor Dorim to help children with reading and projects. And The Spanish Honor Society adopted a daycare orphanage in Hialeah and contributed many items, including over 80 holiday gifts, a printer and carpeting for the facility.

First grade students participated in a community service project to benefit the residents of the Miami Jewish Home and Hospital. And the fourth grade students prepared nutritious snacks for children who are enrolled in the after school program at the Boys and Girls Club of Davie. In short - in the classroom, on the playing fields, and in the community,
Sagemont’s achievements are more impressive with each passing year. This month both the Upper and Lower School campuses will be hosting Open Houses. Interested parents can call 954.389.2454 ext. 366 to make a reservation.

The Sagemont School is a Private pre-kindergarten through 12th grade school and camp. The Sagemont School operates two campuses in Weston. The Lower School Campus serves students in PreK3- Grade 5; the Upper School Campus serves Grade 6 through 12. The faculty and staff at The Sagemont School are dedicated to parent-teacher relationships in a high-tech learning environment. With multiple computers in each classroom, and small class size, children are learning the skills they will need to be successful both in school and later in life.
