FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) February 13, 2009 --
Louisiana Music Hall of Fame musician Al Johnson wrote the famous Mardi Gras tune “Carnival Time” 50 years ago but had never been honored during Mardi Gras season like this before. During this 2009 carnival season, Krewe of Grela float riders will be throwing “Al Johnson Carnival Time” throw cups – plastic souvenir cups bearing a performance picture of the parade’s Grand Marshal, Al Johnson. Johnson is also featured in a radio campaign for the Louisiana Lottery and their Mardi Gras products including “Here Comes The Parade” scratch-offs, has made several TV appearances, appears in the February issues of “Offbeat” and “New Orleans” magazines and is being honored by and presented before the New Orleans City Council with a video tribute.
Al Johnson is also the subject of a new mini-documentary on "The Making of a Commercial - Al Johnson for The Louisiana Lottery". This short film documents the making of the “Carnival Time” themed commercials celebrating the spirit of carnival, and is posted on You Tube, My Space, Facebook and the LMHOF web site.
The ad campaign was made possible by a joint venture of the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame and the Louisiana Lottery Corporation. The proceeds to Al Johnson from this campaign have helped him finally take possession of his new Habitat For Humanity Musicians' Village home in the upper 9th Ward of New Orleans. Johnson was displaced, as so many others, by Hurricane Katrina and had been sharing time between Houston and New Orleans. Special thanks have been given to LMHOF Executive Director Mike Shepherd, LA Lottery President Rose Hudson, Lottery Producer Jeff Jackson and Lottery PR person Kimberly Chopin.
Johnson was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame for his contributions to Louisiana music and has since performed at the Inaugural Ball of Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal. The Louisiana Music Hall of Fame has a growing “Virtual Museum Online” featuring artifacts and information on many of the most famous Louisiana musicians including Al Johnson. Among other current Inductees are Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, Clarence “Frogman” Henry, Jimmie Davis, Louis Armstrong, Jimmy Clanton and many more. The “Virtual Museum” features the largest collection of Louisiana music videos, biographies, photos, artifacts, oral history interviews and records including many exclusive offerings not available or viewable anywhere else.
