Singapore, 25 November 2008 – On Events is pleased to announce Singapore’s most comprehensive inaugural Wedding Expo - SgWedEx. The romantic affair will take place aptly after Valentine’s Day from the 20th to 22nd February 2009 at the Singapore Expo, Hall 6B.

Set to be the largest wedding event in 2009, SgWedEx is expecting to draw a crowd of close to 40,000 visitors being a ‘no admission charge’ event. Couples can look forward to a one-stop shopping experience for all their wedding needs.

SgWedEx is the brainchild of Jeffrey Koh and Rizal Afandi Rais, who both encountered similar experiences while planning for their weddings.

“SgWedEx

was inspired by our own wedding experience. When we were planning for our weddings, we were constantly frustrated by the sorely inadequate wedding fairs. There weren’t enough vendors at each wedding fair for you to compare the services and prices against,” says Jeffrey Koh. Currently, wedding fairs in Singapore are normally held by a handful of wedding-related companies in a hotel ballroom, showcasing just one vendor per category.

2009 is also an opportune time to host a fair of this scale for multi-racial Singapore. The number of couples tying the knot has been increasing steadily since 2004. A total of 23,996 weddings took place in 2007 with more than 3000 being inter-ethnic marriages.

“Singapore is a multi-racial society and the number of inter-ethnic

marriages is only set to increase further. The complexities of inter-racial marriage are multiplied when you have to consider the different cultures and customs so shopping for inter-racial marriages can be quite a nightmare,” Rizal said.

SgWedEx will see the largest gathering of inter-ethnic wedding vendors for the first time. Non-ethnic couples can also draw inspirations from other ethnic weddings and add a unique touch to their own wedding experience.

SgWedEx plans to be the most comprehensive annual wedding event of the nation, allowing couples to effectively focus on planning for the wedding and not who to plan the wedding.

Singapore’s wedding industry is worth approximately SGD$ 719 million dollars with an average cost of SGD$ 30,000 spent on each wedding.
