Recycling Systems, Inc. Helps Zoetica Wellness Center Gain LEED Building Certification

Recycling Systems, Inc. (Chicago, IL) - Dr. Lillian Ostojich of Zoetica played an important part in the sustainability planning process for her new wellness and health facility located at 1250 N. LaSalle Street in Chicago. From the beginning, Dr. Lilly arranged to recycle as much of the waste as possible. Recycling Systems, Inc. (RSI) was contracted to pick up and recycle building materials at the time of demolition and throughout the construction process. Once all construction work was completed, documentation provided by RSI determined that 83.86% of job site debris was recycled, a great foundation for a sustainable business such as Zoetica. Depending on the submission process, Zoetica is projected to achieve either Gold or Platinum LEED Building status. They believe, “It is much harder to achieve LEED status in an existing site. One must readjust, remodel, and improve existing systems. Ideally, this would have been planned for and incorporated into the original architectural design and the costs calculated ahead of time for a brand new building on a site chosen for that purpose.” Some of the green practices used by Zoetica were to reduce water usage by 40%, purchase wind power credits, install Energy Star electronics, utilize local manufacturers, and purchase post consumer recycled products. Zoetica is also the first USDA Certified Organic wellness and health facility in the country.
