I spent the last 5 years selling over 19 different manufacturer lines each with 1,000 of skus. I started my sales career selling pest control over the phone to women screaming from a chair in the middle of their kitchens. When after 4 months I could sell them on a $260 initial treatment and $50 maintenance contract in less than 3 minutes I knew I was a born sales person. I love and thoroughly enjoy every aspect of sales, but first and foremost, good service that I receive from others, especially when free is on the top of my list. The second would be objections. I love dissecting objections and understanding what fear they stem from. The key is knowing enough about your prospect that you will be able to predict objections and overcome them before they arise. Leave him a thing or two to grip about, otherwise he won’t know what to do with himself.
Of the more important things
If you have ever said “Well…..no one else in the industry does it that way either.” “huff….” Then you are your own worst enemy.
You have to offer something that no one else offers or can offer as good as you, cheaper maybe, but not as good.
Look at your competition!
Who are they?
What are they doing?
What are you doing differently that they aren’t?
How are you exploiting it?
Why would you choose your service over your competitions?
Are you up to standard, and who is setting that standard? It should be you.
One thing that has benefited both national brand big box corporations and small business alike to take their business to the next step is to get smart, and think ahead.
