Some use small cut baits(tiny) or Bait flies from the tackle shop, they will know what you mean.I use plain flour from the missus’s pantry(its always fresh but dont tell her I steal it from there) about 1 and a half cups mixed with enough water to make a soft but not claggy doe.I put a pinch of salt and a bakers capful of fish oil usally STIMULATE brand as they are one of the best burley additives I have found on the market today.

Have a BAIT out for fish following up the schools of bait fish.The amount of times Ive seen salmon rounding up my bait is disgusting.If there is bait around there will be somthing else to eat it so be a good scout and go prepared.

Salting Your Left Overs:

Instead of chucking your bait straight in the freezer, Layer it in an old ice cream container and heavly salt. Do this for each layer and over the top filling any gaps. Apply a small amount of fish oil or Stimulate to to each layer if you wish to add to its effectiveness and place into the freezer.This dries any excess moisture from the flesh and toughens it up to hold on the hook longer.It has no effect on the palatability of the bait and is a better way to store bait for a 2nd use.Fresh is best but we are busy men and catching bait is not always practicle.This works best on soft fleshed baits and pipis hold for much longer then any other way.Sometimes better then elastic, but its far better to use both in the surf.This is the resourceful mans way of stretching his means.
