Wally Findlay Galleries presents “Els Colors del Blanc” by Lluis Ribas at the Los Angeles Gallery

“Els Colors del Blanc” (The Colors of White) is the title of Lluis Ribas’ latest and most daring collection of paintings. In this collection, Ribas has captured the subtleties of shape and shadow to depict moments of the human spirit. To achieve this, he has redefined the concept of color, in this case the various shades of white.

The nuances of white combined with the enigmatic human forms tell a story of life itself. Amidst the shadows and folds of fabric one of Spain’s most important artists has woven a tapestry of emotions that range from love to solitude. From passion to pain.

“I present my exhibition ‘Els Colors del Blanc’, which consists of 33 paintings in which I have changed my style to a more narrative one, whereby I describe the life of a human being from birth, through love, sex, tenderness, ageing and death, in a single scene: A great white sheet that, through its folds, tells the story of a whole existence, with a single person, a woman whose face we will never see” says Ribas. His realistic style breathes life into each canvas, leaving the viewer to anticipate some movement; some change of shadow and form, even the sound of rustling sheets seems possible.

“Els Colors del Blanc” also conveys the unpredictable and mysterious paths of art itself, from the blank white canvas to the sheet of paper waiting to be filled with the artist’s imagination and creativity. About the Artist:

Lluis Ribas the renowned luminista of contemporary Spanish art, as a child in Masnou, Spain, spent hours on the beach tracing his first drawings in the sand. His profound knowledge of the secrets of light and shade, paired with his palette's wide range of colors, gives his paintings their signature stunning beauty.
