For a trendier look that can flatter many skin tones, try a strand of colored pearls in shades such as pale pink, champagne or amber. Ribbon style or cascading necklaces that mix gemstones or glass are also popular this year. For a cost effective gift, try an invisible wire necklace with beads or other decorations.

Pay attention to the neckline of the dress and don’t pick a color that can overwhelm the dresses, Hinz said.

“First, the necklace should complement and enhance the dress by combining nicely with the neckline and the frame of the face,” Hinz said.

If a dress is heavily embellished, with beadwork for example, choose a simple necklace that isn't overpowering,” Hinz said.

Don't overlook junior bridesmaids or flower girls when it comes to gift giving, as well.

“Remember the younger girls with a silver angel or a colorful cut crystal butterfly pendant on a chain,” says Hinz.
