Welcome Spring and Summer with the bright colors designers have in store for these upbeat seasons this year. Continuing the Fall/Winter trend, big and bold jewelry pieces will be all the rage. Now they will be more vibrant and rich in color to play against vibrant-colored monochromatic (single color) clothing pieces as well as the bold prints (e.g., florals, butterflies) seen in numerous ready-to-wear and designer collections.
The breakout color for Spring/Summer 2009 will most definitely be yellow. "I think it's just the most wonderful symbolic color of the future," says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the world-famous Pantone Color Institute. Other “in” colors include fresh grass green and apple green; turquoise, teal and deep medium blue; concord grape; fushcia; and even bright orange (think “chili powder”).
For those of you who enjoy wearing pastels, that palette translates into the lighter tones of lilac, aqua, light blue and peach. White and the traditional shades called cement, nude and taupe are the neutral colors. Choose a medium-toned brown (aka “ripe plum”) instead of black as a key accent hue to contrast all these brilliant colors.
Ethnic, exotic inspirations–as seen in the beading on fabric and use of all kinds of animal prints--will also carry over into Spring/Summer, as will the trend of embracing geometric shapes in jewelry, clothing and accessories.
Sparkling jewelry accent pieces are still in vogue for the day or evening. This look can be embraced easily by simply adding crystal- or CZ-accented pendants, necklaces and earrings to any outfit. Large stud or large post earrings will work for everyday outfits. Pump up the look even more with oversized earrings—especially large dangly ones or large hoops with pearl, gem or crystal accents.
What this all boils down to is one easy advice nugget: If you wear over-sized and chunky jewelry pieces (not dainty ones) and embrace the color-drenched clothing you’ll be seeing in the stores--you’ll definitely have “the look” that’s cool for both Spring and Summer 2009.
