There are many reasons parents are lying awake at night these days. Many have lost their jobs, of course, and are worried about providing for their families. But others have more timeless concerns: rebellious teens, sick children, missing children. Of course, some are tormented by the death of a child.
No matter the cause of your worries, parents, Christian author Arnold Ytreeide wants you to know he's praying for you. Every night. Even as you lie awake.
"I was lying awake myself one night, feeling sorry for myself over a situation," Ytreeide said. "Suddenly it hit me that, while I was wallowing in my own self pity over a relatively minor situation, there were parents out there lying awake at the same moment, worried over some really serious stuff."
With this revelation, Ytreeide vowed to begin a ministry to those parents. He created a Parents Awake Page on his existing website, a page that contains a blog. Every night that he's able, Ytreeide writes a blog entry addressed soley to worried parents.
"I now pray for parents around the world, all day long," Ytreeide said. "There's no money in it -- I don't even have Goggle Ads on my site. I'm not just trying to build traffic here. This is a sincere effort to minister to parents."
The nightly blogs assure parents that Arnold is praying for them, but they can also get more personalized prayer by sumitting a comment, even if it's anonymous. "I keep all comments private," Ytreeide said, "but I don't need to know names or specifics in order to prayer for a situation."
Ytreeide will tell you that his connection to God is no greater than that of anyone else. He's the first to say that anyone can pray, and God will listen. What he pledges is only that he will pray, specifically for parents, each and every night.
"My heart goes out to parents around the world," he said. "I've been there, done that, and my kids grew up to become amazing adults, though there were the typical tough times. God has blessed us greatly, and now I want to pray those blessings on others."
