Button was first across the finishing line following the safety car with Barrichello coming across in second, benefiting from Sebastian Vettel and Robert Kubica going into self destruct mode and taking each other out with only a few laps to go. It looked for a short while that Lewis Hamilton would join the two Brawn drivers on the podium but he was just beaten to the third spot by Jarno Trulli. The third position could still be handed to Hamilton as Mclaren take their case to the stewards.

Button had a text book start and flew off the line but his team mate Barrichello unfortunately activated the anti-stall system, and was in tenth position by the first corner. While trying to recover Barrichello tangled with both Mark Webber's Red Bull and Nick Heidfeld's BMW, causing Webber to spin into Heikki Kovalainen's McLaren.

The race was full of incidents including two safety cars which allowed tail-end starters Jarno Trulli (Toyota), Lewis Hamilton (McLaren) and Timo Glock (Toyota) to benefit and finish in third, fourth and fifth places.

The final surprise of the race weekend was that neither of the two Ferraris finished the race. Massa slowed with a mechanical problem and retired, while Raikkonen spun into the wall and broke his front wing with only three laps to go.

It seems that the Midas touch of Sir Richard Branson has now touched the Brawn GP team!
