The Lint Center, a non-profit charity, focused on supporting the educational pursuits of the next generation of America’s Counterintelligence and National Security Workers, today announced that Juan Rodrigo T. Ricafort was selected as the winner of the 2009 Jack McCoy Scholarship.
The Jack McCoy Scholarship for Outstanding Service to Country and Mankind provides $500 to recipients pursuing scholastic study in fields related to Counterintelligence, Cultural Understanding, Diplomacy, and National Security studies. This is the first of four scholarships’ to be awarded from the McCoy Scholarship Fund.
“I am tremendously honored to be awarded the Jack McCoy Scholarship from the Lint Center and I am very pleased to receive this distinction from such a prestigious organization,” said Juan Rodrigo T. Ricafort, undergraduate student at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University and Peter F. Krogh Honors Scholar 2009. “I feel truly blessed by the opportunities my country has afforded me and I believe that furthering my education by majoring in Science, Technology & International Affairs at Georgetown will enable me to give back to this nation through a career in public service. The intersection of science, technology, and national security is a critical arena and I am grateful for the support and recognition the Lint Center has graciously bestowed upon me.”
“I am gratified to see that Mr. Ricafort and I both share a passion for public service, faith, and an understanding of the importance of cultural awareness, especially as it pertains to Asia,” said Jack McCoy, veteran of the Korean War and namesake of the scholarship award. “This scholarship recognizes outstanding service and a commitment to ennobling one’s appreciation for culture – to build alliances of understanding, to create forums for effective diplomatic exchanges, and to promulgate the universality of strong global governance. I thank the Lint Center for its hard work in identifying a worthy candidate and I congratulate Mr. Ricafort on a job well done.”
“Science and technology are the lifeblood of our nation’s economic competitive advantage and the backbone of America’s national security and intelligence apparatus,” said James Lint, Chairman of the Lint Center for National Security Studies. “Mr. Ricafort, through his research in advanced nuclear radiation technologies, his keen interest in developing a multilayered defense against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear terrorism, his devotion to the study of Japanese linguistics as well as his commitment to volunteerism in America, sets him apart from his peers. Jack McCoy’s legacy is one of service and cultural awareness so it is fitting that this scholarship be awarded to an emerging leader dedicated to scholastic excellence and to one who shares a concurrent reverence for national service.”
