Miss Black California USA Partners with Dr. Ian Smith's Fifty Million Pound Challenge!

(Free-Press-Release.com) March 31, 2009 -- Miss Black California USA 2009 Jalondra A. Davis has been named as a California spokeswoman for Dr. Ian Smith’s 50 Million Pound Challenge. Launched in 2007 by State Farm Insurance and Celebrity Fit Club judge, author, and fitness guru Dr. Ian Smith, the 50 Million Pound Challenge is aimed at reducing the preventable diseases and deaths caused by the epidemic of obesity in America, with a focus on the African American community.

The Miss Black USA Pageant and Scholarship Foundation is a non-profit corporation whose mission is to provide scholarship opportunities for outstanding young women of color and develop the whole woman, mind, body and spirit. Through a national partnership between the Miss Black USA organization and State Farm, each of the 2009 delegates will be featured on the Fifty Million Pound Challenge website, where state residents can vote for their queen. The winner will be announced and presented with a $5,000 scholarship from State Farm on the night of the 2009 national pageant. As part of her efforts to promote the Challenge and encourage health and fitness in under-served communities, Miss Black California USA has partnered with critically-acclaimed South LA arts center Lula Washington Dance Theatre to launch the DIVAS Dance Fitness Workshop. Held on Fridays from 7-8:30pm, this low-cost class will blend simple jazz, hip-hop, and Afro-Latin movement with cardio and toning exercises for the beginning and experienced dancer. Count on high energy, high sass, and high fun! Miss Black California USA is also looking for other organizations and businesses to partner with to promote the Challenge across the state of California.
