soundwrx continues its evolutionary path with another innovative artist project. Blending traditional orchestral music with its trademark electronica, soundwrx has signed classical composer Simon Godden to form ‘The Sonic Tapestry’©.
Simon, who is based in Canterbury, England, has composed numerous works including an orchestral piece, "Spirit of the Stour", performed by the Canterbury Music Makers in 2005, a full length string quartet that was presented to the Royal Society of Arts, Music & Drama and has had two of his works performed by the BBC Ulster Orchestra during his time at Queens University, Belfast. He is currently writing his first symphony but has put that on hold to fully embrace this new project.
“I was introduced to soundwrx on the on-line composers’ forum that we both use” explains Simon. “My classical music education taught me that anything you can’t pluck, hit or blow is not an instrument, but over time I’ve come to respect the validity of electronica music and listening to the work of soundwrx has strengthened my belief that it is as creative as any other style - sometimes more so. Craig (Hopkinson - soundwrx’s Creative Director) has a real understanding of classical music and although our styles and influences are completely different, there is a mutual awareness of what works and what doesn’t”.
“I want soundwrx to become synonymous with innovation and I am very excited by this alliance” says Craig Hopkinson. “Simon’s talent lies in composing bold and comprehensive pieces but with an awareness of the spaces I need to work in to mesh the electronic contrasts and sweeps that form the common thread through the whole. The scope for story-telling within this genre is boundless and I foresee lots of opportunities for its use.”
The two have already composed their first piece which is now at final mixing and post-production stages and expect to release this at the end of April as a foretaste of “The Sonic Tapestry” album due out later in the year.
