Modern Guitar Improvisation Wizard Mark Fitchett is Forming a New Band

"It's been a long time coming!" Says Fitchett of his latest project. The dream of a lifetime according to Mark was to have a collective of musicians that could improvise well together, and still be listenable to the general audience. "Too often musicians get together and do the free music or hardcore jazz thing, which is fine and fun for the musicians, myself included, but is not really satisfying to most listeners." Fitchett states that the goal of his group is to be able perform music that has structure, set melodies, chord changes (sometimes), all of the usual thing associated with songs but at the same time have the freedom to improvise around that structure. And of course there will be the obligatory jam band middle sections, intros, endings and space jams that groups like the Grateful Dead made popular. One of the big differences in Fitchett's ensemble is the level and diversity of musicianship. The combined talents of the musicians cover a seemingly unlimited list of styles, including jazz, rock, blues, classical, country, world music, and folk just for starters. Instrumentalists include bass, guitar, keyboards, percussion, drums, cello, violin, oboe, woodwinds, trumpet and vibraphone. "I want to introduce musicians and listeners alike in the art of improvisation because this part of popular music seems to have disappeared in the last few years, especially in the mainstream. I am on a quest to educate, enlighten and inspire the masses!"
