Introducing Segway's new prototype-P.U.M.A.

(Free-Press-Release.com) April 13, 2009 -- Segway and General Motors are developing an electric two-seat prototype vehicle with just two wheels, which could allow people to travel around cities more quickly, safely, quietly and cleanly, and at a lower total cost. The collaboration, dubbed Project P.U.M.A. (Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility) combines several technologies that increase mobility freedom with zero emissions, enhanced safety, seamless connectivity and reduced congestion in cities. The Project P.U.M.A. prototype took a test drive in New York on April 4, 2009 ahead of the New York Auto Show.

The Segway Personal Transporter (PT) is optimized for short trips beyond walking distance. Project P.U.M.A is intended for longer trips that typically require traditional fuel vehicles (Upto 20kms).

P.U.M.A values less over more; taking up less space, using less energy, produced more efficiently with fewer parts, creating fewer emissions during production and operation, all while offering more enjoyment, productivity, and connectivity.

Segway’s P.U.M.A. prototype represents the shift that’s needed for the future of transportation. Built of the proven reliable and safe technology you find in Segway PT, the P.U.M.A prototype truly does expand upon the exhilarating riding experience. It increases capacity to two passengers in a seated position; capable of carrying them up to anywhere between 25 and 35 mph (40 - 56 kms/hr) for anywhere between 25 and 35 miles (40 - 56 kms) on a single charge*. It does so while taking advantage of the unparalleled maneuverability and advanced control you get through Segway’s use of dynamic stabilization (balancing technology).
*It’s a prototype, which is why these high-end ranges vary so significantly.
