JOE'S BEEN PASSIONATE ABOUT STEAKS SINCE HE WAS SEVEN
Joe’s Steakhouse in Shenandoah Valley Welcomed Heartily
New Restaurant in Historic Woodstock, Va. - Grand Celebration on Friday, April 17
April 14, 2009, Woodstock, VA – Back in the mid-seventies, in rural
Newport, New Hampshire, Richard and Josephine Wobbe were struggling to
provide for their nine kids, including their youngest son, Joe. At
that time, Joe was seven, and already a promoter. (He wanted his name

everyone would know who he was.). 32 years later, with a family of his
own now, one single day stands out in Joe’s childhood: “THE DAY OF THE
STEAKS.”
With a grin on his face, Joe reminisces: “Normally, there wasn’t much
money for anything but pasta, and more pasta. But, I remember well the
day my dad got a check back from his 1975 tax return. He said, ‘Let’s
go and pick out a steak!’ All 11 of us walked a block and a half to
the IGA, and made a beeline for the meat counter in the back. We each
chose a steak, and then dad had us march back to our house in a line,
holding our steaks above our heads! Back then, we actually marched
everywhere.”
This past month, with the same boyish passion, Joe turned his memories
into reality, opening Joe’s Steakhouse with two of his friends,
business partners, Rich Church and H.B. Sager. A big “Joe's
Steakhouse” sign now hangs on the old brick exterior of 124 S. Main
Street in historic Woodstock, Virginia. Located smack dab in the heart
of the Shenandoah Valley, ever since March, their tables have been
filled, their pleasant servers bustling, and locals and visitors
alike have been treated to a taste of Joe's unique food. Joe’s is fast
becoming a hot spot, and is “culture in the making.”
“There really aren't too many good dining spots to choose from between
Winchester and Harrisonburg ... that consistently serve a high-quality
meal in a friendly, upbeat atmosphere,” says Joe, the General Manager.
“Whether you're driving in from the Northern Virginia - D.C. Area, or
you're a Valley mainstay, we're building Joe's to be a place you'll
want to return to often, and bring your friends. They'll have a lot to
talk about, between bites,” he says.
And finding delicious, out of the ordinary options is easy at Joe's.
Their menu, created by celebrated local chef Chuck Billow, includes
fresh seafood; crab cakes jammed-packed with Maryland crab; all types
of thick, juicy beef cuts, including prime rib specials; as well as a number of
desserts that are destined to become classics, such as Mystery Pie, a rare concoction
of creamy cheesecake folded into Southern pecan pie. The full menu can be found on
Joe's web site at:Joe's Steakhouse
Joe's is open Monday through Thursday from 4 to 11 p.m., and from 4
p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. They are closed on Sunday.
(The last order is taken at 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and at
10:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday). A full bar, with lively Valley
conversation and win, is another reason to come on down. In addition, the
newly-renovated facility features three rooms upstairs, perfectly-situated
for small intimate gatherings, such as wedding dinners, anniversaries,
birthdays, special occasions; and business dinners. Reservations are taken
on weeknights at (540)459-JOES.
On Friday, April 17, Joe’s Steakhouse will be holding their Grand
Celebration, with the official ribbon cutting at 3:30 p.m., and the
restaurant opening for dinner afterwards. Joe’s Dining Cards will be
available that day, and will be sold online in the future.
“Our opening is really about the community,” emphasizes Joe. “We used
over 25 local vendors in the build out of the restaurant, and we’re
the new proud employer for over 15 local people, many of them young
folks.” Joe’s also uses as many local, fresh food products in their
menu as possible. “In this tough economy, it’s great to just sit down
and have an affordable dinner with friends and family,” concludes Joe.
“Whether it’s a juicy steak or your favorite seafood dish, it’s
comforting and enjoyable, and makes you whisper to yourself ‘Life is
good,’ as I did marching down the street many years ago.
