New "Green" Jigsaw Puzzles Can Actually Grow Wildflowers

April 15, 2009

Ecological-themed puzzle pieces go from game to garden!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) April 15, 2009 -- When was the last time you planted a jigsaw puzzle in your backyard and it grew wildflowers? Now you can do a jigsaw puzzle and also help to save the planet. Green Pieces is the latest product released by TDC Games, a well-known maker of board games and unusual jigsaw puzzles, that builds upon the company’s existing eco-friendly products, taking them to the next level with the ability to grow wildflowers. Whether you complete the puzzle or not, the pieces can be planted in the backyard and... voila... wildflowers.

Green Pieces... Earth Friendly Jigsaw Puzzles is a series of four 500-piece jigsaw puzzles that have been laminated with a special paper that contains the seeds of various wildflower species.

“The clever feature of these puzzles is that if you plant and water them, they’ll grow beautiful wildflowers," says Larry Balsamo, president of TDC Games. “I hope that friends and family will sit down and enjoy building these puzzles while discussing the challenges facing our environment.”

Green Pieces are imbedded with seeds from a variety of wildflowers including Evening Primrose and Spurred Snapdragons. Each puzzle features an image with a unique ecological theme, such as AMERI-CANS featuring an American Eagle that is composed of over 3,500 aluminum cans... or the same amount that is discarded in the U.S.A. every single second. I NEED A HUG is an image of a Panda made from 2,000 smaller pictures of logging operations. The puzzle points out that there are less than 2,000 Pandas left in the world largely because of deforestation of their natural habitat.

"We wanted to create the greenest products possible," said Balsamo. "Using the flowers as a carbon offset is a unique way to accomplish that goal…and plant the seeds of environmental awareness... so to speak."

All four of the Green Pieces puzzles are already available at Barnes & Noble and at toy, gift, book and department stores nationwide at a suggested retail price of $15.99. A fact sheet with details about the puzzles’ eco-friendly specifications and other information is available at www.tdcgames.com.

TDC Games will also be releasing The Green Game, a much-anticipated board game designed to be a fun way to increase environmental awareness, this Spring.
