ORGANIC LANDSCAPE COMPANY PRAISES MCGUINTY PROVINCE WIDE BAN ON PESTICIDES

Toronto - Applewood Acres Gardening & Landscaping Inc. (Applewood) today reiterated it supports behind a provincial law that comes into effect on Wednesday April 22, 2009, (Earth Day) which will ban the use of cosmetic lawn and garden pesticides.
“It's high time that our provincial government step up and enact legislation that protects all of its residents from the health and environmental effects of lawn and garden chemicals,” said Richard Brzakala, President of Applewood and a board member of the Organic Landcsape Alliance (OLA).

have been using risky and hazardous chemicals” said Brzakala.
Applewood is one of a few traditional organic landscape companies in the Toronto area that has an established history (dating back 25 years) of practicing responsible horticulture and not using any form of chemical pesticides.
“Part of what we do is try to educate consumers on the advantages of moving away from chemicals and using traditional methods of organic, pesticide free, gardening and lawn care”, says Brzakala.
“Sure it may cost more in terms of labour and money, but neither of these things seem to matter to customers who want to make a positive difference in their communities,” says Brzakala.
Pesticides and chemicals have traditionally be plentiful and therefore
cheaper in price so what can a homeowner expect in the coming months and future when having to make decisions about their green space.
"Our business strategy has been to never compete on the basis of price", says Brzakala. "We compete on the basis of the value that our services bring to the client and the positive impact we have on the community and environment ".
