Katie Stam - Miss Indiana, won the Miss America 2009 on Saturday night in Las Vegas.She was crowned by Kirsten Haglund who was Miss America for 2008.

(Free-Press-Release.com) April 20, 2009 -- After winning swimsuit preliminary round,Miss Indiana - Katie Stam, won the Miss America 2009 on Saturday night in Las Vegas. She was crowned by Kirsten Haglund who was Miss America for 2008.She is a communications major at the University of Indianapolis and wants to one day be a TV reporter. Her platform is community service and involvement.She won the Miss Indiana title in June 2008 and she began competing in pageants at age 15.

She wins a $50,000 scholarship, plus another $1,000 for winning the preliminary swimsuit and fitness award, and perhaps other awards accrued along the road to becoming Miss America 2009.
