Streaming live on the Voice America Network (www.voiceamerica.com) on Wednesday, April 29 at 2 p.m. Pacific time/5 p.m. Eastern time, on"Why Shamanism Now?", Last Mask Center for Shamanic Healing founder Christina Pratt and guest Alan Davis – a successful medical doctor who has been studying core shamanism for a decade -- explore how shamanism and medicine are blending in a variety of unexpected places across America, and discuss the merging of these medicines. In this episode, Davis discusses how he came to core shamanism and why he finds great joy and community in this part of his life. He talks with Pratt about how shamanism and medicine are enriching each other.
Davis will also talk about the annual conference of the Society for Shamanic Practitioners, of which he is the President of the Board of Directors. Davis will review Bantu Medicine men, the “Temple of Spirit”, a Corn Oracle and other adventures that will be taking place at this year’s conference.
Christina Pratt is an authentic, non-traditional contemporary shaman. In practice since 1990, she specializes in mending the soul and transforming the parts of life that feel impossible. A teacher of exceptional clarity, humor, and inspiration, Pratt brings the power of shamanism into the practical grasp of anyone willing to take responsibility for improving the quality of their life. Her well-received book, An Encyclopedia of Shamanism clearly discusses the basic concepts of shamanism, methods, and traditions of over 50 different shamanic peoples. Pratt is the founder of the Last Mask Center for Shamanic Healing in Portland, creator of the original Foundations of Shamanism and Shamanic Healing course at the University of Minnesota, and a frequent and honored speaker for the American Holistic Medical Association.
Alan Davis, M.D., Ph.D., is an assistant professor at the University of Utah School of Medicine Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Salt Lake City, and the medical director for Quinney Rehabilitation Institute at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center. His medical practice focuses on inpatient medical rehabilitation. He has been apprenticing with Sarah Sifers, Ph.D., a graduate of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies (FSS) Three-Year program, and is pursuing FSS coursework FSS Education Director, Sandra Ingerman.
