A long time republican, Arlen Specter made a splash in the news cycle with his announcement early Tuesday morning. What makes this such an interesting event is the placement of the democratic party.

What does this mean for the republican party? This may indeed mean that the republican party is seeing an abandonment of old school party thought.

Someone mentioned Specter's battle with Hodgkin's disease has something to do with the sudden political changeover, but the fact is, democratic leader, Harry Reid is one constituent who has been encouraging Specter to make this switch.
