Luis Salgado Interviews With JigTV.com About Moving From Puerto Rico to New York, Promotes "In the Heights" and Auditioning

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) April 28, 2009 -- (April 15, 2009, Denver, Colorado)—Luis Salgado is a Puerto Rico native who moved to New York 6 years ago to pursue a career in dance. He has performed in shows like "Mambo Kings" as well as choreographed other shows such as "Serenade" in New York and "Mezcla" in Peru. He has appeared in films ranging from "Enchanted" to "Step Up 2: the Streets." He has taught dancing since he was 17 and is currently performing in an off Broadway show "In the Heights."

In his choreographer interview, Luis tells JigTV about when he left Puerto Rico 6 years ago to come to New York, there were not a lot of dance schools that taught ballet and other forms of dance in Puerto Rico. Instead commercial dancing like Hip Hop and Reggaeton dominated the scene. Over the last few years Luis believes the commercial dance styles have helped bring traditional dance schools to Puerto Rico. Another option for aspiring dancers to learn about dancing is to view an online dance class.

His transition from Puerto Rico to New York happened pretty seamlessly. Though he didn't start taking formal classes until he was 15, it only took two classes for a teacher to ask him to perform in a show. Though he did not think Broadway first, he mixed his love of theater and dance which ultimately brought him to "In the Heights" which opened March 20th. When asked "What is your favorite Broadway show?" Luis slyly responded "In the Heights!"

Though many performers dread the audition process, Luis Salgado thrives under the pressure. He believes people forget that dancing come from the heart, rather than going through the motions which ultimately ends in a poor audition. In his students he enforces the difference between "dancing" and "being a dancer" the latter of which dances from the heart. He also encourages the online dance community to remember that the judging is not personal which should take a lot of weight off the shoulders. He reminds you to follow your heart and dance because you love it and that will shine through.

Personally, Luis does not watch a lot of TV but he is happy that shows like "So You Think You Can Dance" have brought light to the dance movement. These shows show the hard work it takes to be a dancer, as well as inspires people to want to dance.
