FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) May 7, 2009 -- The duo a tempo will be performing pieces from the classical repertoire by composers such as Schubert, Doppler, and Godard as well as works with a Latin American flavor by Mower, Villa-Lobos, Hernandez, Lecuona, among other Cuban composers. The performance will take place on Sunday, May 17 at 4p.m. at the Colony Theater at 1040 Lincoln Road in South Beach.

Fabian Alvarez, flautist, and Debora Sanchez, pianist, began their musical studies at the Guillermo Tomas Conservatory of Music in Havana, Cuba. They began playing together in their early years of musical training and performed together in numerous recitals in Havana, Cuba. At the age of 13, Debora and her family left Cuba and moved to Miami, Florida where she soon attended and graduated from the New World School of the Arts and Florida International University. Fabian remained in Cuba during this time and during his last year in high school was awarded with a scholarship to attend the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico. In 2003, after nearly 10 years, Debora and Fabian met in Miami and once again began sharing stages together as collaborative artists. They have grown as musicians and have demonstrated through recognition and accolade their ability to connect with the music and the audience. Now, as members of duo a tempo, they get together to bring a diverse program from the classical repertoire to the audience of South Florida.

The selection of music for the afternoon is diverse in styles through its European and Latin influences. The will open the program with Introduction and Variations Op. 160 by Austrian composer Franz Schubert. Known for his bravura in his compositions, Polish composer Francois Doppler’s Fantaisie Pastorale Hongroise Op. 26 will be performed. To conclude the first half, a delightful piece by French composer Benjamin Godard, Suite of Three Pieces, Op. 116. The second portion of the afternoon changes the pace and mood with selections from mainly Latin American composers. Accompanying duo a tempo for this part of the program are guest musicians, Raimel Olalde, percussionist, and Braulio Fernandez, bass player. The repertoire begins with Michael Mower’s, Sonata Latino which incorporates Salsa, Rumba, Merengue, Tango, and Bossa Nova. Followed by a piece by one of Brazil’s most significant composers Heitor Villa-Lobos’ Aria from Bachianas Brasileiras No.5 where he displays a fusion between Brazilian folk, popular music, and the style of Bach. To continue the fiery repertoire, a piece by Venezuelan composer, Heraclio Fernandez’s El Diablo Suelto! To conclude the program a few selected “Danzones” by various Cuban composers will be performed.
