In the 1980’s, the ERP industry was like the Wild West. You had a multitude of technologies, and that was just for databases i.e. Pick, Information, Flat Files, Binary Libraries and more. Lesson number 2 – There will be mergers and acquisitions. With the rapid growth of the EMR software industry, you will see many mergers and acquisitions. Newer EMR companies surviving on sales will have a tough time in this economy. Many will be purchased for their newer technology they bring to the table.

Lesson number 3 – Larger, more established EMR companies are slower to change embracing newer technology. The more feature rich the solutions gets, the slower it can adapt to new technology. Therefore, there will be a host of add-on’s and interfaces helping to bridge different technologies.
