North American Rescue, Inc. (NAR) partners with the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department (SCVRD) in product assembly, providing disabled people with practical experience and helping them achieve success in a work environment as well as further independence.
SCVRD, an employment agency for disabled individuals, offers trained workers who are capable, dependable, and productive, maximizing the ability in people with disabilities. SCVRD clients at the Greenville Work Training Center assemble and pack combat medical supplies for North American Rescue, Inc. Up to 45 clients a day assemble litters, perform product subassemblies, and meticulously pack the 45-item backpacks and 3 smaller kits.
Ninety percent of combat deaths occur before patients reach medical treatment facilities; nearly 20 percent of those deaths could be prevented. NAR provides critical equipment for managing combat injuries until the soldier can reach a medical treatment facility. Founder and president Robert Castellani has a military medical background and keeps product development current using active military personnel contacts. Use of NAR products could conceivably decrease preventable deaths by 60 to 90 percent.
Compelled by the awareness that they may be saving someone’s life, clients labor steadily without complaint, taking pride in their work and their country. NAR chief operating officer Jim Carino is pleased with the partnership with SCVRD. “It’s cost effective for us and it’s an effective use of tax dollars,” he said. “And, it’s a stepping stone to employment for the clients.”
North American Rescue, Inc., based in Greer, South Carolina, has enjoyed the honor of serving their country, community, and customers for over a decade. By providing innovative casualty care solutions to first responders, health care professionals, and security forces at home and abroad, NAR is leading the fray to decrease preventable death on the battlefield, whether it be a foreign combat zone or the streets of America.
