Misty J. Brown, D.D.S. to Return to Romania
Texas Dentist returning to Bucharest, Romania to give dental relief in orphanages.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) May 12, 2009 --After almost seven years, Texas dentist Misty J. Brown, D.D.S. will be returning to Romania to provide dental relief in several orphanages. After starting her solo dental practice in Keller, Texas, she began travelling for several consecutive years prior to starting her family. The desire to return is stronger than ever according to Dr. Brown recently said, "I knew there was such a need back in the 1990's, especially after the successful execution of the relentless Communist leader Nicolae Ceausescu. But now after starting my own family, I cannot forget the faces of the many orphans I treated and the thousands we had to leave behind untreated."
There are many opportunities and needs in foreign countries for medical and dental relief. The needs far outweigh the number of doctors who are willing to sacrifice time away from their private and professional lives to help those who are less fortunate.
The American Dental Association recognized Dr. Misty J. Brown along with Dr. Steve Curran in their December 1998 journal issue. Both doctors were recognized for their years of mission work in Eastern Europe.
Forty-five years of Soviet control has had a devastating effect on the Romanian and Bulgarian people. In addition, the transition to a free market economy has been difficult and painful. Shortages of food, housing and basic necessities keep the prices high, yet wages remain the at Soviet era levels. The average monthly salary in the 1990's was $50.00 to $75.00 per month. Prices paid for goods and services are comparable to the United States. Many city dwellers live in homes that lack what we would consider basic amenities. Rural homes often do not have cental heating. The fledgling emerging governments are presently unable to meet the basic needs of the people. Can you imagine trying to support your family with these conditions?
So keep your chin up in this bad "economic crisis" in the United States. Count your blessings for getting to live in the greatest country on Earth. Give of your time to those less fortunate, and "pay it forward"!
