Collier West C.W. Flea Annual Event
Collier West Hosts Annual CW FLEA & Community Event: Saturday May 16th and 17th Short North retailer delivers value, inspiration and fund raising support.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) May 14, 2009 --
(COLUMBUS, OH) -- This weekend Columbus retailer Collier West
will host their 6th annual C.W. Flea. The former sale- turned event will feature discounted goods, premiere goods and several local female artists displaying their local wares.
On May 16th, The Flea will open its doors for a first ever “FleaVIEW” to allow early shoppers and C.W. zealots an opportunity for first dibs. Proceeds from the admission of the preview will be donated to the Komen Cancer Foundation.
Created by Suzi West, proprietor and owner, The C.W. Flea is the largest event the store hosts during the calendar year, with over
2500 invited potential attendees. This year’s event will focus on women, as it coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Columbus Komen Race for the Cure.
“We are a women owned business that was greatly supported and mentored in our early years by outstanding female business leaders in the community. We have also given back to the city through mentoring whether it be our involvement with the Columbus School for Girls or the Women’s Fund of Central Ohio.”
With an ear to the street and deft to react to consumer demand, Collier West showcases exclusive new products that are more about quality and value than disposable goods. The principle of the brand is to support artists and craftsmanship and the origination of design and materials, than to sell factory produced goods.
This weekend, the C.W. Flea will host three selected women from the Columbus College of Art and Design to showcase their locally produced works and to observe the inner-workings of independent retail.
Recent economic times have forced many retailers into strategic
plans to maintain their business foothold. Independent retail must rely on its wit and ability to adapt quickly to compete with the larger corporate retailers. A skill that some independents feel is an advantage.
“We are closer to the business,” writes Mary Jo Collier Pile, who shares an interest in Collier West. “We have the ability to touch our customers individually and create great service to meet their needs.” Pile lives in New York and holds a senior position with a large juniors apparel firm.
As a part of the updated strategic plan, the brand will utilize social media such as Twitter and Facebook to communicate the
preparations for the C.W. Flea, as well as to give status reports on the event itself. Marketing leader, Suzi West is identifying these media blasts as “Flea Bytes.”
“We wanted to evolve the Flea from a sale event to more of a community event, much like the Marché Des Puces Flea Market by which it was created. Most flea markets from Brimfield to Paris have crafted goods, antiques, negotiable goods and lots of items in between. As our moniker reads this year, No Pony Rides, but plenty of attractions.”
The Collier West C.W. Flea is located at 853 N Pearl Street in the Sandbox co-working space. Hours daily from 11am – 4pm.
