(Free-Press-Release.com) May 25, 2009 --
How Clean Is Your Hotel Bed?
One hundred per cent of the respondents said that hotel beds should be hygienically sanitised, and the same number said there should be a legal requirement for hotels to do this, according to the survey.
The Hotel Bed Survey, in its second year, challenges the cleanliness of hotel beds and their risk to people’s health, while national room occupancy rates have risen from 65 per cent to 77 per cent in the past two years.
The survey, carried out by mattress hygiene experts Pure Clean, produced some startling statistics about hotel beds.
The Hospitality Bed Survey Response:
100% said that the mattresses in the hospitality industry should be hygienically sanitised.
100% said there should be legal requirements in the hospitality industry for mattresses to be hygienically sanitised.
67% said that the mattresses in the hospitality industry should be hygienically sanitised at least once every year.
50% hotels should replace their mattresses at least between 2&4 years.
13% said they take their own sheets to sleep on when staying in hotels.
Rohan Brooks of Pure Clean said ‘People are very concerned about the cleanliness of hotel beds and their lack of hygiene. It’s time mattress hygiene standards were put in place to ensure that the paying-customers have a safe sleeping environment.’

Note To Editors:
Pure Clean carries out research in mattress hygiene within the hotel industry and is setting new sleeping quality assured programmes as part of the Hospitality of Mattress Excellence star-rating scheme (H.o.M.E).
The scheme addresses issues such as health and safety, mattress hygiene and open-flame mattress fires. Its aim is to create safe, and also allergy-free, sleeping environments that caters for health as well as comfort. This will add extra value to the hoteliers' core product – the beds, where customers can reap the benefits of a healthier night's sleep.
