A tragic event rocked our community in 1996 when a seventeen-year-old was kidnapped from Woodfield Shopping Mall in broad daylight. Shortly after graduating from high school, PAVE Founder Angela Rose was assaulted by a repeat sex offender who was on parole for murder. Did you witness our community banding together to gather petitions that culminated with the passing of the Sexually Violent Persons Commitment Act? The outcry that came from our community brought Angela great strength. Because of that support, she went on to create PAVE: Promoting Awareness, Victim Empowerment, a nationwide nonprofit organization that uses education and action to shatter the silence of sexual violence. PAVE initiatives have been implemented in over 50 cities.
Angela Rose now travels across the country and abroad educating on the issues of sexual violence. PAVE’s work has been featured on The Today Show, CNN, and in TIME magazine. Angela Rose was recently named the Co-Chair of Ending Violence and Human Trafficking for the Women’s World Conference in Sophia, Bulgaria in 2010.
Honorees at PAVE’s Awards Banquet include Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart who was named one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World in May of 2009 by Time magazine, Former IL Attorney General Jim Ryan, Lawrence M. Lykowski who spent a 25 year career with the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, and retired police detective Jim Perille who is the owner of Capital Security & Investigations.
