A changed man formally known as “Freeway” Ricky Ross

Los Angeles, CA June 2009- A man can be judged in his past by his acts alone, but everyone changes. So too is the story of the man formerly known as “Freeway” Ricky Ross.

An American Gangster and Drug Kingpin is how the world viewed him. Now Ricky Ross is known as the man that is going to change not only Los Angeles, but the world in a positive light. “Freeway” Ricky Ross had a hard life and took the road to drugs, with the help of the “friendly CIA Contra.” Even with the charges and accusations, “Freeway” Ricky Ross paid his dues to society by being incarcerated for wanting to do what he felt was right. This one mistake led him to a life sentence later reduced to a 20 year sentence. Now he is redeeming himself and his name to help not only children in California, but also their parents through youth programs that had been lacking for years.

Through his new foundation Freeway Enterprises, Freeway Ricky Ross is “determined to educate and create a positive change in [our] culture and society.” Since being incarcerated, while presently residing in a halfway house located in San Diego, he has learned new things about life and himself. “I have read over 200 books, countless magazines, newspapers, so my entire horizon has changed. I look at the world a lot different.” This new horizon and outlook on life, along with his wisdom of business, has also given him ideas for now being a free man.

Currently, Ricky Ross will be focusing on a book and film deal, a new record label, modeling agency, a foundation to help inner-city youth at risk, a reality Television show, and his own social networking site (FreewayEnterprise.com).

“Freeway” Ricky Ross is also taking the time scouting for new artist with musical talent for his record label, inspiring models for his upcoming modeling agency, and experienced computer programmers for his social network ran by Boss Ladi of FreewayEnterprise.com.

Ross presently has a film crew following his release from prison and his journey across the country to a halfway house in California where he will interact and impact the youth in juvenile detention centers along the way.

About Ricky Ross
Ricky Donnell Ross (born Jan. 26, 1960), also known as "Freeway" Ricky Ross, was a drug trafficker best known for the “drug empire” that he presided over in Los Angeles, in the early 1980’s. The nickname “Freeway” came from Ross owning several properties along the Harbor Freeway.

In 1996, Ross was sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of trying to purchase more than 100 kilograms of cocaine from a federal agent. Ross became the subject of controversy later that year when a series of articles by journalist Gary Webb, of the San Jose Mercury News, brought to light a connection between one of Ross’s cocaine sources and the CIA as part of the Iran-Contra scandal. The decision in Ross’s case was brought to a federal court of appeals where his sentence was reduced to 20 years.
