Adoption Concerns Inspire La Jolla Couple to Create Online Parenting Cafe

New online adoption cafe shares expert advice for adoptive parents and birth mothers.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) June 1, 2009 -- La Jolla, CA, — Patrick and Jeanie Scott succeeded in their quest to adopt a child because they were in the right place at the right time. If only it hadn’t taken about 15 years for that magical moment to happen.

To help other couples shorten the distance between desire and destiny, the Scotts have founded an online adoption cafe called Danielle’s Beacon. Each week the couple shares helpful information about the legal and emotional entanglements that make family building so difficult. The goal is to show visitors how to become a family through adoption. Visit the Scotts at www.daniellesbeacon.com

”We happened to be in the right place at the right time,” says Jeanie Scott, who with her husband adopted an infant girl about eight years ago. “We were matched with a couple who did not have a pre-determined plan. They decided to place their baby for adoption after her birth rather then before. That made the timing critical. It took a lot of very capable people to make this happen.”

The Danielle’s Beacon adoption café features advice from professionals, such as Joy L. Kolender, a San Diego attorney who specializes in adoption, and adoption facilitator Cindy Simonson, of San Clemente. Other groups and individuals with adoption expertise have been invited to contribute.

Even adoptive parents, birth parents and adults who were adopted are invited to share portions of their story at the adoption blog. All will help educate the millions of people who are searching for a child — a child who needs a home.

“I would not want people to think this is a simple process. Adoption is just not that easy, even though there are a lot of children out there,” says Scott

The online adoption outreach idea began to take shape last year after Patrick Scott finished a screenplay called Danielle’s Beacon, a true story based on his personal struggle with accepting adoption. His co-screenwriter, Michael Berlin, whose Hollywood credits include television shows such as Miami Vice, The Commish and Murder She Wrote is also an adoptive parent. The screenplay is now circulating in entertainment circles, seeking financing for an Indie film planned for 2010.

A prose memoir of the Scotts’ often heart-breaking odyssey to become family is now being considered for publication. Patrick Scott, a football fan, likens his luck to a late-game victory for the home team.

“I was ready to give up. It was too painful. It was Jeanie who saw the light. When we got the call, the call that changed our lives, it was Jeanie who convinced me, ‘This is the one,’ ” he says.

Although the Danielle’s Beacon adoption cafe is primarily focused on would-be adoptive parents, it does not exclude birth mothers. In fact, information about how to handle unplanned pregnancy is also available and will be posted regularly.
