PathBinder Publishing and Heather Hummel are proud to announce THROUGH HAZEL EYES (PathBinder Publishing, 2008) won the 1st Honorable Mention spot (2nd Place) of the 2009 New York Book Festival in the Romance category.

Heather Hummel is an ambitious author and writing coach to aspiring authors. Her first published book, Gracefully: Looking and Being Your Best at Any Age (McGraw-Hill) was coauthored with her mother, Valerie Ramsey. However, proving her talents as both a nonfiction and fiction writer, it was Hummel’s first novel, Through Hazel Eyes, which won 1st Honorable Mention of the 2009 New York Book Festival in the Romance category.

Inspired by her years of teaching high school English, Hummel penned Through Hazel Eyes during her final year of teaching in 2005. Then, after two years of researching the publishing industry and searching for the right agent for her work, her career took a turn when she put her novel aside to shop Gracefully to agents. It was the first of two agents Hummel approached who picked up the piece (although both were interested), and Gracefully found it’s home with agents Jackie Meyer and Olga Vezeris of Whimsy, LLC. Within a few months, John Aherne of McGraw-Hill took Gracefully into their publishing house and gave it a home. By Mother’s Day of 2008, Gracefully was in the stores, and as Valerie Ramsey toured internationally promoting it, Heather Hummel went back to work on her first love: Through Hazel Eyes. And, the work paid off less than a year later through the New York Book Festival (www.newyorkbookfestival.com).

Heather Hummel has recently finished her second novel, The Universe is My Sugar Daddy. She will be attending the New York Book Festival ceremony at the Algonquin Hotel in New York City on June 5, 2009.
