A recent study conducted by Ohio State University found that 1 in 5 preschoolers is considered obese. In the 20 years between 1980 and 2000 the number of overweight children has more than doubled. The main contributor to this health crisis: our culture’s shift to largely sedentary activities.
It is the magnitude of this problem that makes Soccer Shots and other programs like it so vitally important. “I hear from parents and school directors all the time how great this program is at getting kids outside running around and having fun,” Jason Webb, Soccer Shots Director.
“I was looking for a sport my boy could take an interest in and something to keep my daughter active to avoid excessive weight gain and I am pleased we found Soccer Shots.” Nikole Stewart, parent of participating child.

The exercise that children receive during their soccer shots session has benefits beyond just having fun. Pediatrician Vincent Iannelli, M.D. “While exercise is good for everybody, it provides a double payoff for children, because while they build a healthy base today increasing their capacity for good academic performance, children also are laying the groundwork for a healthier tomorrow. In addition, studies have shown that aerobic activity may improve memory.”
In an 8 to 10 week season, the Soccer Shots program teaches soccer skills and character building with the use of imagination, and fun fitness activities. The enhancement of a child’s coordination, balance and agility are seem immediately, but it is the building blocks being created for a life long love of sports that have the strongest impact.
