LOGAN, Utah —A local small business owner was honored by President Barack Obama in Washington, D.C. after being named the Utah small business person of the year in May.
Jan Miller, president of Stander, Inc., which makes senior home care safety products and is based in Cache Valley, traveled to Washington, D.C. on May 17 for the National Small Business Week. She didn’t know at the time that she would convene with the president of the United States of America.
“Because of security concerns, we didn’t know we would see Obama until the day of the event,” Miller said.
Meeting with other small business award winners as well as national leaders of major companies was a great experience, Miller said, but the highlight was meeting with Obama and his economic advisor, Larry Summers.
“The best part was the experience of hearing the President speak about the importance of small businesses and honoring small businesses,” Miller said.
Stander, Inc. is one of North America’s leading manufacturers of bed rails, bathroom safety products, and mobility devices. They have been doing business in Cache Valley for over a decade and are constantly inventing new products. Visit www.stander.com to see the complete product line.
