Liberty's Thunder

June 5, 2009

We are a local non-partisan, grassroots organization of concerned Americans who are disgusted with the wasteful, out of control government spending and are determined to have our voices heard.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) June 5, 2009 -- This is the official newsletter from Liberty’s Thunder formally the Modesto Tax Day Tea Party. The website is up and running, new members are joining all the time and our fellow citizens are sharing their thoughts in blogs and comments. So stop by and sign up today and be part of the online protest.

What is going on?
First off, you may have noticed the Tea Party movement has lost a little steam, mostly because everyone is working or is just busy living their lives. There was really no plan locally or nationally on what to do next.

As a result of this, the committee that setup the Modesto Tax Day Tea Party has been meeting and discussing how to continue to make our voices heard. We thought about joining up with the Modesto 4th of July Parade and having an informational booth at Graceada Park, but quickly realized the 4th is a time to be with our families and celebrate the freedom of this great country.

So at this point, we would like to turn our attention to our local and even the state government. We need to get involved. We need to learn what our public officials are doing. We need to attend city council and board of supervisor meetings. We want to stop the state government’s theft of our local city and county funds to finance their foolishness at the state capital.

That is where Liberty’s Thunder comes in. The goal is to populate the site with information you might not find in a causal search on the web. Such as articles detailing how to run for a local office and what it costs; Reports about our local officials and how they are spend our money; Calls to action on who to write, phone or protest, chanting “it’s not your money”.

Current Call to Action
Yes we defeated 5 out of the 6 propositions here in the Golden State. That was great. Unfortunately, our state politicians won’t address the real problem--overspending! Instead they just want to steal from our local cities and counties to pay for their budget shortfalls.

We say no!

Yes it is time to take our country back, but we are going to have to take our state back first. In the next few days and weeks we will be putting together a grass roots plan to support our cities and counties and encourage them to send the state packing.

Of course there will be naysayers and party hacks that will insist that government programs will be cut that will be harmful to one group or another. But let’s use a little logic here-if it were not for the government taxing, regulating and micromanaging our lives, you or a local charity would have the money to take care of these groups.

We have to keep our local tax dollars here. Why do we send money to the state and hope to get it back, always with a massive handling fee or regulations dictating how to use it? If the state overhead was reduced, removed or eradicated then the local governments could fund our own needs.
