Before the 25 minute operation Mr Savage was shortsighted in both eyes, with a prescription of -2.5 and -2.25 in each eye. After numbing the eyes with anesthetic, the first laser will create a flap in the cornea (this is called Intralase).

The surgeon will lift the flap up on the eye and prepare it for the laser.

The second laser (where the magic happens) will then laser the eye for around 20 seconds (this varies depending on the level of prescription that needs correcting). A blue flash and a crackling noise will be heard as well as a burning smell which is the laser hitting particles in the air and not the eye itself burning.

Once the magic has happened, the flap will be put back in place and the same will be done to the other eye.

When both eyes have been lasered, that's it!

Mr Savage reported instant results, being able to read the time on the clock across the room, albeit his vision slightly blurry and watery.

As the anesthetic wore off his eyes began to water and became very sensitive to light so he kept them shut and took a little nap on the way home, which was recommended by the team at Optical Express.
