The Night Move Announces New Downtown Shuttle Service: The Loop

June 23, 2009

The Loop, a green shuttle to circle Detroit, will offer metro Detroiters a way get around the city.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) June 23, 2009 -- The Night Move , metro Detroit's green public transit, has announced the launch of a new service called the Loop . The Loop will provide biodiesel-fueled express shuttle transportation between several downtown points of interest, from 6pm to 3am on Friday and Saturday nights, starting Friday, June 26. "I think we're more excited about the Loop than we were about launching our original route," says Night Move owner Chris Ramos. "It’s the perfect complement, and we're hoping it will provide a viable gateway to the city for suburbanites."

In honor of its inaugural run, Ramos is offering free rides the night of Friday, June 26, to anyone wishing to use either the new service or his existing service, an express shuttle between Royal Oak, Ferndale and Detroit. To kick off the new route, Ramos and company will hold a launch celebration at the Town Pump Tavern, starting at 7pm the same night. Attendees will be able to take advantage of drink specials and free "Sliders for Riders," provided by the Town Pump.

Stops on the new Loop route include the following:

• Foxtown: Town Pump Tavern/Centaur (Montcalm St & Park Ave)
• Bookies Bar & Grille (Washington Blvd & State St)
• Greektown (Brush St & Monroe St)
• Midtown: Majestic Theater, Union Street (Woodward Ave & E Alexandrine St)
• North Wayne State (Anthony Wayne Dr & Williams Mall)
• Traffic Jam and Snug (Canfield & 2nd St)
• MGM Grand Casino (Lodge Fwy & Abbott St)

The Loop will be free to passengers of the Night Move on the same night, and will be $5 per night (credit card only) to uniquely Loop passengers. The Loop will complete its route approximately every 40 minutes, from 6pm to 3am, every Friday and Saturday night, and will have additional stops for special events.
Ramos hopes to pique the interest of more local businesses, so that with increased sponsorship and ad sales, he'll eventually be able to run the Loop for free for all passengers.

The Night Move's standard route runs from Royal Oak to Ferndale to Detroit, from 6pm to 3am Friday and Saturday nights. It stops in Royal Oak on the hour (:00) at 5th and Washington, Ferndale at 10 after (:10) at E. Troy and Woodward, and Detroit on the half hour (:30) at Montcalm and Park.

Those who have used the service in the past should note that the Detroit stop will change to coincide with the Loop launch; the Night Move will now be stopping in Foxtown, at the corner of Montcalm and Park, instead of in Greektown.

Left behind by most big cities throughout the world, Detroit needs public transportation in order to recover economically, and eventually thrive once again, as a legitimate competitor in the globalizing market. Ramos and his company are taking steps to normalize public transit in metro Detroit, by offering an affordable, accessible option for getting around.
