FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) June 23, 2009 --
Cherie House, previous owner of "Something Different" in Northern Virginia has resided in Knoxville, TN for the last four years. House was a wedding cake designer in the Washington, D.C./Northern Virginia region for the last several years of her residency in the D.C. area. She learned some of her more intricate cake decorating talents from Norm Davis, a regular competitor on the Food Network shows cake competitions. House has catered for several years and has an extensive cooking ability. With consistent research, House discovered that there was no one who offered cooking classes in this area, in the same manner as she felt would be beneficial to children and parents who work.
"Children today need more education in cooking and how to be able to prepare various dishes for their families. This instruction would give the children the knowledge they need in order to help their parents out in the kitchen." House states. With businesses suffering as they are, it doesn't make sense to rent a building and have to increase your overhead. House says, "I want to teach children in a fun atmosphere, in a party setting, so that they can learn how to make dishes that will truly help their mothers in the kitchen. I don't think that teaching them how to make sundaes or cupcakes is what a mother needs right now. They need a child to learn how to make a meal."
The "Wooden Spoon Parties" developed by House will be two full hours of concentrated instruction. Children's classes will teach them kitchen safety, how to read recipes, how to measure ingredients and how to put together dishes that they've chosen ahead of time. Classes which were originally only thought to help children have already expanded to teach teenagers who want to learn gourmet dishes -- and bachelors. "I talked to two mothers last week who asked if they could pay us to teach their sons who were UT students, how to cook for survival." House said, "I suppose we'll develop several different classes as the need arises. And the need WILL arise."
Wooden Spoon Parties are as reasonable as the cost of a normal birthday party in Knoxville but this party will have a lifelong affect on the children who attend. When a young child learns things early such as how to measure ingredients, helpful hints, how to be safe around the stove, etc., they learn things that will always stick with them. House comments, "I remember my first cooking class when I was 7 years old. To this day, I still remember how to measure shortening by watching it float in water. Cool huh?"
House is taking reservations for parties at this time by calling 865-740-0164 or by email at woodenspoonparties@gmail.com . For more information please call. Website is scheduled to be in operation by July 15. She has been giving cooking instruction via YouTube since last June and gets an overwhelming response to all of them. She personally emails each of her subscribers with answers to their questions.
