Welcome visit Our WebSite:
http://pacifica.org Pacifica’s 2009 elections are now in progress. The Pacifica Foundation is America’s oldest independent media network; a beacon for listener-supported, noncommercial, free media since 1949. Pacifica is made up of five radio stations (KPFA-Berkeley, KPFK-LA, KPFT-Houston, WBAI-NY and WPFW-DC) and over 100 affiliate stations. The network reaches 100’s of thousands of people worldwide. Nominations for our local station boards are now open.
The Pacifica 2009 local station board elections are extremely significant at a time when freedom of the press is in decline worldwide. Only 17% of the World’s population lives in a country with freedom of the press (Freedom Foundation). Pacifica is the only media network to have democratically elected local station boards, in other words, it is the only network which allows listener-members to actively participate in its decision making.
In these local station board elections, listener-members elect other listener-members to approve their stations’ budget, evaluate management and oversee programming. If you value free speech radio you can keep the Pacifica radio network alive and get your voice heard by running for your local station board and voting for the listener candidates.
Nominations are now open for these local station board elections. Nomination packages can be downloaded from pacifica.org or you can get a hard copy from the local election supervisor. The deadline for nomination packages is July 15th.
To run for your local station board and/or participate as a voter, you need to be a current member. Please become a new member or renew your annual membership before July 15th by making a minimum annual donation of $25 to your local station (see address list below) or perform 3 hours of volunteer work at your local station.
