Gluu joins Kantara Initiative

June 25, 2009

Start-up participates in collaborative Identity effort to addresses shared IDaaS challenges of security, privacy, and interoperability.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) June 25, 2009 -- (Bulverde, TX) Gluu announced today that it was joining the Kantara Initiative, an independent non-profit organization created by leaders of foundations and associations working on various aspects of digital identity, aka "the Venn of Identity," to be a focal point for collaboration to address identity industry issues such as interoperability, legal standards, privacy considerations, data ownership, use cases, and requirements.

“Inter-domain IdM is still in its infancy. Kantara’s goal is to invent the wheel, so no one else will have to later on” explained Michael Schwartz, CEO and founder of Gluu. “We quickly realized that many issues facing IDaaS providers were shared by others in the industry. Lack of standards drives everyone’s costs up, and inhibits the growth of the market.”

“IDaaS providers such as Gluu are an important part of the digital identity ecosystem,” commented Brett McDowell, executive director, Kantara Initiative. “We welcome Gluu and their IDaaS deployment experience to the Kantara Initiative community where members are working collaboratively to address the technical interoperability, assurance, liability and privacy aspects of digital identity solutions across all protocols and market segments."

“The challenges to building a scalable cloud based Identity management infrastructure are many and varied,” continued Schwartz. “Gluu is moving ahead with the best available practices and technologies. However as an industry we need to improve. It is important to Gluu both to contribute to the discussion, and to benefit from the experiences of the community.”

Gluu Inc. is a San Antonio, TX based startup company that hosts the Gluu IDaaS service. Organizations who are a member of Gluu can define their own Gluu Communities, through which they can selectively send and receive updated identity information. Gluu also enables SAML federation for implementing single sign-on within Communities. Membership in Gluu is free. For more information or to register with Gluu, visit http://www.gluu.org.
