MSU Spartan Selected 50th Overall in the 2009 NBA Draft; Will Play for the Utah Jazz

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) June 29, 2009 -- Salt Lake City, Utah – At 6’10”, 250lbs, Goran Suton is hardly a small addition to the Utah Jazz basketball team. The Michigan State alum filled the position of forward for the Spartans, and is expected to continue in that role for the Jazz.

“Goran brings a lot of things to the table and certainly had a terrific career,” said Jazz general manager Kevin O’Conner in a recent press conference, “you can see his numbers exponentially improved and he’s somebody that’s a willing worker.” O’Connell opened the conference with encouraging the reporters to watch footage of the NCAA games rather than ask questions regarding why Suton was picked for the Jazz.

Suton’s stats certainly do speak for themselves. He played in 32 games during the 2008-09 season, and started for 29 of those. The previous season was equally impressive with him starting 35 out of the 36 games he played. In 2009 Suton was named Most Outstanding Player of NCAA Tournament Midwest Regional, averaging 19.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in games against Kansas on March 27th, and Louisville two days later on March 29th. Suton also Led the Spartans with a .848 free-throw percentage. Not too shabby.

Born in rural Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, Suton played basketball from a very young age and was a member of the Bosnian National Team at the age of 14. The family was forced to flee Yugoslavia during the Bosnian War and eventually made it to the United States. Suton attended Everett High School in Lansing and led the Vikings to a Class A basketball title as a senior in 2004.

Anybody doubting Suton’s ability or credibility should listen to his former Spartan teammate, Travis Walton: “Everybody that thinks they had a hard life, people from the projects, or the 'hood, or the slums, well, Goran was from worse than that. It's funny because some people ask, 'Is he tough enough?' I think it's just that his appreciation for basketball is not life or death, like it is to us. He's seen something that's bigger, that's really life and death."

Welcome to JazzLand, Goran.
