Atlanta Youth Given Opportunity to Learn Dynamics of Soccer Business Operations

(Free-Press-Release.com) July 6, 2009 -- ATLANTA – July 3, 2009 – With the sport of soccer growing rapidly, more jobs on and off the field are being created. Soccer in the Streets, an organization that teaches positive choices through soccer, partners with the School of Life and Atlanta F.C. to expose these opportunities to kids.

The School of Life is a program that combines tutoring, mentoring and hands on experience to prepare Soccer in the Streets participants for their future careers, both on and off the soccer field. The School of Life program is in conjunction with Riverwood International Charter School to promote diversity and grow the soccer infrastructure.
Atlanta F.C., a National Premier Soccer League team, provides various opportunities for School of life participants to get involved during their season. The kids are given the chance to gain hands on soccer business experience. Program activities include: game day operations, marketing, sponsorship, promotions and other related fields.

Participants are given the chance to earn their coaching and referee licenses through the program. It engages kids and gets them involved without actually playing the sport. One participant, Jose Guerrero, graduated this year from Riverwood. With English as a second language, school was frustrating. Once joining the Soccer in the Streets program and becoming involved with Atlanta F.C., he became inspired to work hard in school to participate in more activities such as ticketing and game day operations.

“This year, I've learned that you don't necessarily have to be the best soccer player in order to be part of a team,” said Jose. “You could not know how to play soccer but still be a part of the team.”
