Youth Motivational Speakers Entertain While Inspiring Leadership and Life Skills in Youth

(Free-Press-Release.com) July 9, 2009 -- Waterloo, IA (July 10, 2009) – Innovators Danté Marcellous & Travis Lloyd are redeveloping the hip-hop and rap image across the country. Both based in Iowa, these artists have shared their passion for youth advocacy through their performances in front of youth, as well as the teachers, social workers, and counselors that affect their lives. Their branded method of presenting called Entertainment & Teaching is available to Waterloo teens for a special event.

From July 13 to July 31, the Waterloo Public Library is running a Teen Summer Program with the theme of Artistic Expression. Every Monday afternoon they will be showing a movie for teens as well as having different art supplies for them to create and express themselves in various artistic ways. On Wednesday afternoons writing workshops will be held where teens can learn different forms of poetry and express themselves with poetry or short fiction. There will also be contests for the best art and poetry.

As a part of the library’s summer programs on July 24th, 2009 Dante' Marcellous and Travis Lloyd will be performing and presenting with the topics of decision making, communication, and networking. This special presentation will include a sneak peak performance from Dante's upcoming album release that is scheduled for August 9, 2009. The event will end with an open mic for anyone who wishes to share their songs, raps, or poetry. The presentation will be held at the Waterloo Public Library from 3 to 5pm on July 24, 2009 and is open to the public at no cost. A drawing with prizes will follow the event.

With a knockout showcase act at the state wide youth conference in Las Vegas, Nevada and a performance for Grammy award winning gospel artist, Kirk Franklin’s youth ministry in Los Angeles, California, Marcellous and Lloyd are taking the positive hip hop scene by storm.

Marcellous overcame a childhood in a city where crime resulted in the highest black male conviction rate in the country, to succeeding as a major R&B artist in Los Angeles and New York. Lloyd, who experienced a life of physical and mental abuse, uses his gift with words to develop poetry and song that inspire anyone listening. “Travis writes from his heart,” said Ruth Phillips, director of Children and Families of Iowa’s elevate program. “When he performs, the audience hears the power of his words and they relate to them. There is pain, pride, struggles, success and healing in his work.” Partnering with CFI and elevate, the duo recently released the elevate desire to inspire audio CD that showcases their artistic abilities. This album incorporates youth voices and writings with their professional production to express the advocacy needs that still face our youth today.
