FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) July 10, 2009 -- Students from the Korean Academy of Taekwondo competed in the USA Taekwondo Junior National Championships held from June 30th – July 5th in Austin, TX. Founded in 1980, the Korean Academy of Taekwondo is one of Colorado’s oldest and most successful martial arts schools. The event featured over 2000 competitors from all over the United States. The students from Aurora were color belts and competed in the grassroots division.

Grace Kosloski (6) was the youngest competitor. She earned a bronze medal in her forms division (6-7 Green Belts 45 lbs and under) and a silver medal in sparring (6-7 year old Green Belts flyweight). Her brother, Joshua Kosloski (9), earned a silver medal in board breaking (8-9 year old Blue Belts), forms (8-9 year old Blue Belts 60 lbs and under) and won a gold medal in sparring (8-9 year old Blue Belts flyweight). Joshua only conceded one point total through all three of his matches.

Marcus Risley (7) faced tough competition and won a silver medal in sparring (8-9 Green Belt Flyweight). Joe Law (15) and Jaire Fortt (16), both defeated all of their opponents to earn gold medals in sparring (14-15 Green Belts Welterweight and 16-17 Red Belts Welterweight). Jaire also allowed his opponents to score on him only once during the entire tournament, and all of his matches were stopped early due to the ‘mercy rule.’

The results are particularly strong, considering that it was the first time that these students had ever competed in a national level event. The sparring competition is a single elimination format, meaning that a single loss will prevent a student from moving forward in the competition.

The event was a great chance for all students to showcase their skills and a lot of fun for everyone involved. Taekwondo is a Korean martial art that is also a modern Olympic Sport. Students are taught not only the skills to compete successfully, but also character building and life skills to help them become highly-contributing members of society. The students then learn the discipline to be able to put all of these skills into practice.
