More than half (51.2 percent) of human resource executives surveyed last May said their companies had incorporated salary cuts or freezes in an effort to cut expenses. That was up from 26 percent in the same survey last January, according to Organization Development Management (ODM) Inc., a national outplacement consultancy that conducted both surveys within the employment industry.

Cuts in benefits and salaries are showing to be reducing the need to make permanent job cuts. Employers making permanent cuts fell from 54 percent in January to 41 percent in www.ODManagement.com new survey.

In total, 84 percent of clients said that their organizations have been strong armed to start cost-cutting measures due to the poor economy. This is an improvement from January, when 91 percent of companies were cutting costs.
