FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) July 15, 2009 --
An ex Royal Air Force sergeant from Stakeford in Northumberland who swapped his uniform for a track suit has returned to his old school to share his enthusiasm for fitness and sport in a bid to get the youngsters more active.
Henry Gill left the RAF after twenty one years and has just opened a new exclusive private fitness studio at 2a Osbourne Road in the Newcastle suburb of Jesmond. The Fitness Matrix business is steadily growing mainly attributable to the varied range of classes and treatments he has to offer from spinning (cycle aerobics) to sports massage and one to one personal training and nutritional advice.
“I’ve always had a keen interest in my local area even when I was working with the RAF in places such as the Falkland Islands, “said Henry. “ Being able to work with Guidepost Middle School after all these years has been very rewarding for me personally and I hope the children have been able to see fitness in a different light.”
Henry used his expertise to work with PE teacher Lyn Watkins to design a “Fun on the Field Challenge” which gave the children a chance to take part in a fun physical exercise involving an obstacle course and a lot of water from high powered water pistols. Throughout the day, more than 200 children spent an hour with Henry who instructed them how to keep fit and stay healthy. Each team competed against each other on the timed course and the worthy winners were presented with the Fitness Matrix Challenge Trophy.
“Getting children interested in sport and personal fitness at an early age is so important and ensures that they have the very best start in life,” said Henry. “Once you enjoy something it can stay with you for life and that is what I want to encourage the children to do.”
Teacher Lyn Watkins agreed with Henry. “The children really enjoyed the fun element of the challenge which in places was very physically demanding. I’m sure that this activity will encourage them to do more.”
