Prestige Porsche Audi Celebrates 100 Years of Audi Performance Cars

Audi has been popularized through innovations such as its industry-changing Quattro technology introduced in the early 1980’s to the introduction of the industry-leading TDI clean diesel engine.

Colorado Audi dealership, Prestige Imports is celebrating 100 Years of “Vorsprung Durch Technik” or “Advantage Through Technology.” Don Adis, General Manager of Prestige Automotive states “Many folks are not aware of Audi’s legacy in the automotive industry. Most have the impression that the company has only been around for the last 50 years, let alone the last 100.” Prestige Imports was the first Audi dealership in the Rocky Mountain region and they certainly show their passion for the German luxury brand. The roots of the Audi brand can be traced all the way back to 1899, when a man named August Horch produced the first Horch automobile in Germany. Shortly after his first car was made and sold in 1901, Horch was forced out of his own company and he was later sued in court for trademark infringement for attempting to create a second Horch automobile. During a meeting between Horch and Franz Fickentscher to come up with a new name for the company, Franz’s son created Audi derived from the Latin phrase, “Audi alteram par tem”, meaning, “hear the other side” in English. This was a far better on the ear than the Horch Automotive.

In 1964 The Volkswagen Group purchased Audi NSU Auto Union AG, which had been formed post World War II. Volkswagen introduced Audi in the 1970 model year beginning with the Audi 100. After huge success with the line up of the Audi 50, Audi 80 and Audi 100, the company further entrenched itself in the American automotive marketplace by developing a 4-wheel drive sports car. This was the first all-wheel drive German sports car to be established in the United States. The car was called the Audi Quattro and it allowed Audi to be associated with automotive advances in technology and stunning rally race results in the eyes of the consumer, something that has remained to this day.
