Charlottesville Writing Center Expands Classes to Crozet
The pen may be mightier than the sword, but at the “Be the Writer” workshop on August 22 in Crozet, the Charlottesville Writing Center is the driving force behind expanding their writing workshops to Crozet.
Award-winning author Heather Hummel (Gracefully and Through Hazel Eyes) and author/editor Tanya Brockett (The Loan Solution: Nine Steps to Community Express) will bring their knowledge and advice to a classroom setting to motivate aspiring writers. In addition to their expertise they bring as writers and editors, they are presented by the Charlottesville Writing Center, a well-known, established center that has presented hundreds of workshops to local writers over the years under the direction and commitment of Heather Burns. Together, the spirit of CWC and the talents of these two authors have helped to transform this workshop from merely a class to a hands-on and community-based experience.
“Other than college courses, the first writing workshop I participated in was at the Charlottesville Writing Center. I went from someone who loves to write to an award winning author in a matter of a few years. Now, as a writing coach and workshop instructor, I love teaching and inspiring other authors on their path in this field. I’ve also learned a lot from my literary agent in New York and from having my first book published with McGraw-Hill. On the flip side, I also own a small publishing company. The combination of these diverse backgrounds gives ample material and information to pass on to aspiring authors,” says Heather Hummel.
In addition to her writing and editing background, Tanya has taught many classes at UVA and in the community ranging from writing to starting your own business. “I am so excited to be presented by the Charlottesville Writing Center and coming together with Heather Hummel to support this great class,” says Tanya Brockett. “Many writers rely upon their local experiences, their community, and other writers as a source of inspiration. The collaborative spirit of the writing community makes it the perfect setting for creativity.”
The workshop will be run in one four-hour session. The session will address the many aspects of writing, including the business of writing, publishing, and the creative writing phase. The second segment of the session will be a peer-based, hands-on critique workshop where local writers can share ideas and learn from each other.
To register for the class on August 22, 2009 10 a.m.–2 p.m. at the Western Ridge subdivision clubhouse, or for more information, please visit www.cvillewrites.org or www.heatherhummel.net. Or call 434-466-4338.
