Goldline Research Sees Intense Competition in Northern California Wealth Management Market

“The Northern California region has more households earning more than $100,000 per year than most other areas of the U.S.,” said Ryan Kluft, President, Goldline Research. “This level of affluence has attracted a substantial number of wealth management professionals. There are almost 3,000 wealth management professionals in the region that hold the CFP® designation. This equates to approximately 1 CFP® for every 4,500 people, the highest per capita concentration of financial planners in any area of the U.S.”

• Median Years of Experience: 21.0 years
• Median AUM: $48.0 million
• Median Number of Investment Advisors/Firm: 1
• Median Number of Support Staff: 3
• Median Number of Clients: 60
• Median Client: Advisor Ratio: 45:1
• Median Assets Managed/Client: $1.5 million

“From a consumer perspective, the high concentration of wealth management professionals can be a double-edged sword. On one hand, a large number of wealth management professionals empowers consumer choice. On the other hand, the abundance of options and a lack of differentiation among many of these firms can add a level of complexity to the decision-making process,” added Mr. Kluft.
